Internal Fire Doors That Suit Your Home

Your doors help set the tone for every room, and you might think choosing a fire door would make it harder to get the look right. But that's not the case. Think classic panels, simple grooves or natural wood grain that works with your furniture and flooring.

Many JB Kind door ranges include both standard and FD30 versions, and as standard JB Kind internal doors are available in solid oak, painted or unfinished ready for you to colour as you'd like, you can expect the same in the fire door range too. That makes it easier to keep a consistent style throughout your home, many JB Kind door ranges offer both glazed fire doors and solid panel too, allowing full flexibility when choosing for each doorway. Always select the fire-rated version wherever your project requires one.

Warm oak or a painted finish?

For an inviting, natural look, oak internal fire doors are an easy choice. The Tigris Oak Prefinished range includes FD30 options with subtle ladder-style detailing and a factory-applied varnish. Wooden doors are a lovely way to bring warmth into a pared-back room.

Prefer a more country-inspired feel? The Oak Thames Prefinished range offers cottage-style grooved detailing, with FD30 versions available. These pre-finished doors suit anyone looking for the perfect door with less on-site work.

For a painted scheme that's budget-friendly, the FD30 option within the White Smooth Canterbury range brings traditional panel detailing and a primed surface ready for finishing, all while keeping costs low. Match it to your skirting and architraves, or opt for common painted shades like black, white or grey for a little more personality.

Make Room for More Light

A hallway can feel very different when it borrows daylight from the room next door. If that opening needs more than a standard wooden door, fire doors with glass can help light flow while still meeting fire safety needs.

JB Kind offers FD30 fire doors that combine fire-rated glazing with practical designs that work. Some styles use clear toughened safety glass, and frosted fire glass is available where privacy matters.

Get the Practical Details Right

Before ordering, have a suitably trained installer check the opening, required fire and smoke performance, and the suitability of the frame.

Unlike regular internal doors, fire doors are designed to slow the spread of fire and smoke and are usually thicker than standard doors because they're built with solid or engineered cores for strength that contain specialist layers to prevent burning. As a bonus, the heavy-duty solid core of a safely fitted fire door can also improve long term durability and insulation.

A fire door’s performance entirely depends on the full assembly, including intumescent seals, suitable fire door hinges and the correct fire rated ironmongery being specified and fitted correctly. To support fire protection and compliance with building regulations, all fire doors should meet BS 476 pt22 or EN1634-1 standards and have third party certification or fully accredited fire evidence, such as independent Certifire validation for traceability. You can rest assured knowing that JB Kind internal fire doors meet all requirements.

It’s also worth deciding how much decorating you want to take on. Prefinished fire door designs reduce finishing work, while primed and unfinished fire door options let you choose your final paint or stain colour. All JB Kind doors have solid timber lippings for trimming, but allowances still depend on the individual door. While primed and unfinished options are typically cheaper to buy, always allow for finishing, fitting and compatible hardware costs when comparing options, too.

Questions about JB Kind Fire DoorsArrow

What does FD30 mean on a JB Kind fire door?

FD30 indicates a minimum 30 minutes of fire resistance under test conditions. All JB Kind fire doors are rigorously tested to meet UK fire safety standards, so you can rest assured you and your family are safe.

For homes, building regulations stipulate that domestic fire doors may be needed in certain layouts, for example in properties with three or more storeys, some loft conversions or where an internal door leads to an integral garage. If you're unsure if you need a fire door or not, just give us a call.

Does a JB Kind FD30 fire door also provide smoke protection?

While some smoke protection will come as part of the set up, an FD30 rating alone doesn't mean complete smoke control. Where absolute smoke protection is needed, the whole assembly must meet the specified smoke performance, often described as FD30S (using the approved seals and door furniture such as fire rated hinges etc). Unfortunately, JB Kind doesn't offer FD30S fire doors as part of their range, so always confirm the requirements for your project before buying.

Can you buy JB Kind glazed fire doors?

Yes, JB Kind offers many fire doors with glazing. Every glazed fire door will come with suitable fire-resistant glass and glazing components. All JB Kind glazed fire doors are supplied with the fire glass already in place as the glazing must be covered by the door’s test evidence as a complete unit, ordinary safety glass is not a substitute for fire-rated glazing.

Can you trim a JB Kind fire door?

Only within the allowances stated in the documentation for that exact door. Limits can vary by design and edge, so ask your installer to check before cutting. The lipping measurement is not automatically the permitted trimming allowance either and with fire doors, it will typically be less than a standard internal door, so don’t assume the same style of door will have the same trimming allowance across the whole range.

Can fire doors be fitted into an existing frame?

Possibly! But the frame must meet the requirements in the door’s supporting certification, too. Its material, dimensions, condition and installation all matter. Have a competent fire door installer assess it before ordering, fitting the leaf into an unsuitable frame will compromise the assembly and ultimately void the certification of the door. Domestic internal fire doors need to meet specific requirements, but these requirements in commercial property settings may differ, so project-specific advice is essential.

Do JB Kind fire doors need painting or varnishing?

It depends on the finish you choose. Primed fire doors need a suitable paint finish, unfinished timber doors need an approved protective treatment and prefinished fire doors arrive with their decorative finish applied. Fire doors play a huge role in the safety of your home so it’s important to follow the instructions for your chosen model as not all finishes are suitable for fire doors, including how to treat any permitted trimmed edges.
